Chicago now has a second Hip Hop anthem that’s kid friendly, courtesy of GRYSKLL. Distinctive Schools Hip Hop teacher Tobias Black, a GRYSKLL member, asked fellow members to collaborate on a song to energize students. As they sampled beats, the group locked onto deMond dUshawn’s song, “Chicago,” already a timeless anthem for Chicagoans.
The original song by dUshawn, also a member of GRYSKLL, was already perfect for summertime cookouts or frigid winter nights. Two GRYSKLL members in Chicago remixed the song and handed it over to students at CIS Lloyd Bond, a charter school in Altgeld Gardens, for a test drive with positive results.
